Metro Bank, an independent bank focused on providing the best in service and convenience to its customers has recently opened its 45th store in the country in Chelmsford. Since opening their first store in central London six years ago, Metro Bank has expanded to having 45 banks across the UK mainly based in London and the South East.
The award-winning bank, which became the first new retail bank company to open up in Britain for 150 years in 2010, currently has four stores in Essex and has an ambitious expansion plan in the county. The next Metro Bank store to open will be in Colchester in December with more stores to follow in the coming months.
“We’re thrilled to bring the banking revolution to the heart of Chelmsford. At a time when many banks are retreating from the high street, Metro Bank is committed to putting customers’ needs first, opening new stores and bringing our convenient banking services to more and more communities. We’re very much looking forward to meeting lots of local residents at our grand opening celebrations and look forward to being part of such a vibrant city.”
Kevin Walker, Regional Director, Metro Bank
The revolutionary high street bank
As a firm supporter of Britain’s high streets, the bank prides itself on using its high street stores as community hubs, with each store hosting a range of events throughout the year to support local people and businesses, from SME networking sessions, to a free financial education programme for children.
Unlike any other bank in the UK Metro Bank provides instant account opening along with on-the-spot card printing for lost or stolen credit or debit cards. All stores offer…
- 7 day a week store banking 362 days of the year
- Tailored business banking services including a full range of lending and cash management solutions
- Safe deposit boxes for customers’ valuables
- Free coin counting for customers and non-customers alike
- Free card transactions and cash withdrawals in 35 European countries
In another first customers and colleagues at Metro Bank can also identify as non-binary and use the title Mx instead of Mr, Mrs, Miss, or Ms when signing up to a new account.
Metro Bank’s expansion
At a time when more than 600 bank branches and 2,656 shops have closed across Britain in the last 6 months of this year, Metro Bank continues to attract new customers by providing the opportunity to use bank services in store, online, over the phone or through an app.
Named ‘Bank of the Year’ at the CityAM Awards 2016, for the second time since its inception, Metro Bank has grown to over £9b in assets with over 2,500 team members and a market value of over £1b.
The independent panel of leading business and financial experts praised Metro Bank for its highly awaited listing on the London Stock Exchange earlier this year as well as its fast growth and success.
“Just over six years on from our launch we remain as committed as ever to creating a true banking alternative by providing exceptional levels of service and convenience. Our thanks must go to our growing number of customers who continue to vote with their feet and support us as we revolutionise British banking.”
