Strong year on year growth for London Stansted Airport’s business routes

London Stansted Airport CEO Ken O'TooleLondon Stansted Airport reached record passenger numbers last month, welcoming over 1.98 million passengers, an increase of 5.8%. The surge in passengers has been displayed increasingly on popular European business routes.

London Stansted Airport plays a key role in supporting the region’s competitiveness and economic growth by providing improved international connectivity. This has been reflected by the strong year-on-year growth on popular business routes.  The routes recording the largest increases included Frankfurt, Copenhagen, Hanover, Billund (Denmark), Munich and Belfast.

London Stansted Airport welcomed over 1.98 million passengers during March, an increase of 109,000 over the corresponding month last year and the busiest ever March at the airport, beating the previous high set in 2016. London Stansted Airport's rolling 12-month total of passengers currently stands at 26.14 million, up 7.4 per cent on the previous year.

Expanding services to access worldwide markets

Emirates Boeing - Emirates have announced a new route to Dubai from June 2018Over the past year London Stansted Airport has announced an array of new destinations and airlines, kicked off by Primera Air who announced new transatlantic flights to Boston (Logan Airport), New York (Newark Liberty airport) and Toronto (Toronto Pearson airport) last October. The airport also added flights from Air Corsica and Mediterranean Air which launched services to the UK. Additionally, WOW air added a connection to New York JFK via Reykjavik and new services were announced for summer and winter by Ryanair and

Last month, and Jet2 Holidays also celebrated the anniversary of its first flight from London Stansted Airport having flown more than one million customers to and from the airport during the year. Strong demand has seen the airline announce it will base ten aircrafts at London Stansted Airport from July having operated six aircraft at launch.

The airport is on track to be the fastest-growing airport serving the capital this year, with over 10.8 million airline seats available across the airport's biggest summer schedule to date.
